EXCHANGE MEETING BETWEEN COUNTRIES ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PRE-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS TO HIV IN LATIN AMERICA

On Tuesday September 29th, the “Exchange Meeting between countries on the implementation of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV in the Latin American region (LAC)” took place in Mexico City, as an activity of the ImPrEP project in partnership with the Pan -American Health Organization for knowledge exchange on PrEP implementation with LAC countries. The meeting had the participation of the ImPrEP project teams from Brazil, Mexico and Peru and the   participation of government representatives from Chile, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, and Dominican Republic.

It was a two days meeting conducted on the 25th and 26th of September aiming to share experiences on PrEP implementation as part of HIV combination prevention strategies from the ImPrEP project countries and countries in the Latin America region with plans for PrEP implementation or expansion in the near future. In addition, activities to inform and strengthen the capacities of participants in the key aspects of PrEP implementation were conducted with the support of country representatives and the Mexico HIV Program team.

Participants had the opportunity to learn about the progress and experiences in implementing PrEP in the three countries that make up the ImPrEP Consortium, exchange experiences on best practices in the area of HIV combination prevention, and participate in workshops on how to plan for PrEP programs based in each country´s context.
