The participation of ImPrEP CAB Brasil in AIDS 2024

From July 22nd to 26th, Munich, Germany, will be the stage, in person and virtually, for the 25th International Conference on AIDS, organized by the International AIDS Society. Considered the largest global event on HIV, with more than 200 sessions including symposiums, presentations, posters, debates and the Global Village (space intended for community sharing), AIDS 2024 reaffirms itself as the main platform at the intersection of science and human rights in the global response to the epidemic.

More than 15 thousand participants are expected, including researchers, scientists, health professionals, people living with HIV, stakeholders, funders and community representatives from various countries.

The conference’s agenda includes a wide range of topics ranging from the most recent recommendations from the World Health Organization on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HIV, other sexually transmitted infections and hepatitis, to issues such as HIV in the context of conflicts. from war, humanitarian crises and criminalization of the virus in some regions, to the discussion of artificial intelligence in the HIV/AIDS universe.

The ImPrEP CAB Brasil project will once again be present at the conference, providing knowledge and answers through the organization of a satellite symposium, oral presentations and posters (check out the program bellow).

Representatives from ImPrEP CAB Brasil will also participate in several sessions of the pre-conference symposium “Welcome to the Era of PrEP Choice”, to be held on Saturday, July 20th, from 3 am to 11:30 am (Brasília time), organized and supported by PEPFAR, Usaid, Unitaid, Bill & Melissa Gates Foundation and World Health Organization.

The event will bring together experts from around the world to address the PrEP product introduction landscape, the transformative potential of prophylaxis choice, key programmatic considerations, and early learnings from efforts to deliver PrEP choice around the world. For the project, Beatriz Grinsztejn, Cristina Pimenta, Mayara Secco, Marcos Benedetti will be present, as well as Brazilians Inês Dourado (PrEP 15-19) and Dráurio Barreira (Ministry of Health).

Another important event in AIDS 2024 will take place at the closing ceremony of the conference, on July 26th, with the inauguration of Beatriz Grinsztejn, head of the Clinical Research Laboratory in STIs and HIV/AIDS, at the Evandro Chagas National Institute of Infectious Diseases, at Fiocruz , and principal researcher at ImPrEP CAB Brasil, as president of the International AIDS Society for the period 2024-2026. Beatriz will be the first Latin American researcher to hold this position.

Also noteworthy is “Cooking with PrEPina Blue”, at Global Village, with the presentation of the pilot episode of a series of video interviews carried out by the character who gives the program its title, created to disseminate information about the combined prevention and treatment of HIV and other ISTs, with simple, accessible language and lots of humor. The guests interviewed are researchers, health professionals and digital influencers involved in HIV and STI research, treatment and care in peripheral communities in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (the episode will be shown on 7/24 at 3PM – German time – GVFS17).
